Tales opens the storybook on rice paper. Half the collection comes from beloved mid-century fairy-tale illustration: red-capped gnomes riding cats, bears and snails, cricket musicians with their mandolins, elegant ants and helpful ravens, duelling roosters, pumpkin coaches under rainbows and mushroom houses in the snow — many sheets designed as cut-outs for layered scenes.
The other half is a modern wonderland: dreamy watercolour nights where a moon-gentleman in a top hat strolls above sleeping villages, a striking Alice cycle — Alice with her white rabbit, the Mad Hatter in two very different moods, the March Hare with his teacup, a haunting Queen of Hearts — delicate angels holding keys on chains, blue-hatted elf watchmakers, and epic fantasy portraits of dragon queens, wolf warriors and an icy night king.
